student aide
Applications will be available in May for the 2024/2025 school year.
Each teacher is given 1 Student Aide Application to give to the student they wish to be their aide. Students should speak with the teacher directly to obtain the application.
The following eligibility guidelines have been provided by the Administration for students who are classified as seniors and are interesting in pursuing this privilege:
1. The student aide opportunity is limited to seniors, who are in the 12th grade ONLY.
2. Teachers will only be permitted 1 student aide.
3. The student must be in good standing both academically and behaviorally.
4. Students must submit the completed application and contract to the senior counselor.
5. The counselor will then verify the courses the student needs for graduation and the ability for the student’s schedule to accommodate the request and present the completed paperwork to the Principal for approval. The counselor will notify the student of the Principal’s decision.
6. If the request is approved, the student must follow the normal schedule change policy. If the request is denied, the student’s schedule will remain unchanged.
7. Student aide placement will occur during the summer. Expect a phone call from Mrs. Duke to see how best to fit it into your schedule.
Expectations of a Student Aide
At Smyrna High School, being a student aide is a privilege. Student aides are asked to help teachers and staff members in their areas of expertise. If you are among the few students to receive this honor, you are seen as a leader in the school and as such, you are expected to model the appropriate behaviors. The following guidelines will ensure a successful experience for both the student and the teacher.
Responsibilities of the Student:
· Be on time and attend class everyday.
· Assist the teacher with work that they have planned.
· Follow the school’s pass policy when leaving the classroom.
· Maintain confidentiality of information.
· Act as a role model to other student’s.
Students will be asked to commit to following these expectations as a part of the Student Aide Contract and they can be removed from their role if they are found to be in violation.
